What's this movie called?

I saw it when I was a little kid, so I'm confident it was made prior to 1996, but I think it was probably earlier 90's. It had a 3 kids and it took place in Africa. It had a cheetah in it and the cheetah was leading them across the desert I believe. Two of the kids were white and the other was a African tribal kid. Any ideas?
